Conspiracy theorists will suggest that Bruce Arena’s Los Angeles Galaxy Reserves threw this game specifically to make three of the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals money-spinning Liga MX-vs-Major League Soccer tilts. Perhaps that is a fitting argument, as Isidro Metapan’s Nicolas Munoz scored four on the Galaxy to give Los Caleros a 4-0 victory over Los Angeles on Thursday at the Estadio Cuscatlan in San Salvador, El Salvador.
With the defeat, the Galaxy will take on Tijuana in the quarterfinals, Arabe Unido take on Alajualense, Sporting Kansas City face Cruz Azul and Toluca tangle with the San Jose Earthquakes. Here are the player ratings for the Los Angeles Galaxy against Isidro Metapan.
Brian Rowe 1
Another performance that Brian Rowe will want to forget. Two saves and a collection and that’s it. Not. Good. Enough.
A.J. DeLaGarza 2
Only three clearances, one recovery and one tackle won. Not up to form yet.
Oscar Sorto 2
Two clearances, two recoveries, and two tackles won. Mainly watched the game pass by him. Needs time to develop.
Tommy Meyer 3
Five recoveries, six clearances, and a 64 percent pass success rate on 39 touches.
Eight clearances, three recoveries, three interceptions and a 92 percent pass success rate. Best performing defender in spite of the result.
Rafael Garcia 3.5
Six recoveries and an 81 percent pass success rate. Not good enough. A big question is whether or not he or a few other players are on the team next year.
Hector Jimenez 2.5
Five recoveries and a 69 percent pass success rate. Penalized for two unsuccessful crosses.
Laurent Courtois 3.5
Three recoveries, two interceptions, a 33 percent cross success rate and an 85 percent pass success rate.
Seven recoveries, three clearances, five tackles won and an 83 percent pass success rate. If he starts against Seattle, this could be trouble for them.
Robbie Rogers 5
Man of the match, despite the result. Provided some width had a good look on goal late, but don’t be surprised if he is on the list of players going out next season.
Chandler Hoffman 2
Came into the game late. Was perfect on his passes and did have two recoveries, but was really a nonfactor for most of the match.
Jack McBean 2.5
On notice all night with just 13 touches and one shot off target.
Jose Villareal 3
No guts, no glory, no mojo. Villareal is one of those types of players that may need to have a gut check every now and then. This was not his night.
Charlie Rugg NR
Came into the game late, no rating given.
