Los Angeles Galaxy vs. San Jose Earthquakes: 10 Bold Predictions

Bruce Arena’s Los Angeles Galaxy are officially at a crossroads. They don’t need to do much against Mark Watson’s San Jose Earthquakes on Sunday, October 20 at StubHub Center in Carson, Calif. A win and they’re in. A draw and they’re in. A loss and they will need some help. You know the drill.

So for LA, the Galaxy need to finish the job against their NorCal rival and become the ones to read the last rites to be assured of their ticket. As for the Earthquakes, it’s win or go home. This is sure to be a great California Clasico finale.

Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. PT/9 p.m. ET and will be televised by ESPN and ESPN Deportes. Here are 10 Bold Predictions for Sunday’s match between the Los Angeles Galaxy against the San Jose Earthquakes.

1. Alan Gordon will score

Nuff said. Next!

2. No goals or assists for Chris Wondolowski

Chris Wondolowski has been on a hotstreak for the San Jose Earthquakes with 10 goals and three assists. Wondo, however, will be held in a check by a back line anchored by the likes of Kofi Opare, who is improving in leaps and bounds. There will be no goals or assists.

3. Jon Busch with at least five saves

Goalkeeper Jon Busch will have another solid game for the San Jose Earthquakes, delivering with at least saves to help the cause.

4. Landon Donovan will make history

That bum ankle Landon Donovan has should heal in time for this game, and he will make history as the greatest goalscorer in the league. Donovan will score a brace and also earn an assist.

5. A goal and and assist for Robbie Keane

This season, Robbie Keane has had 15 goals and 11 assists and will be on showcase on Sunday night against the Earthquakes with a goal and assist to make it 16 and 12.

6. Gyasi Zardes strikes again

Gyasi Zardes earned an assist in the match with the Montreal Impact on Wednesday and should be able to break through with another goal to up his total to five for the year.

7. Jaime Penedo redeems himself

If Jaime Penedo is able to wake up from a nightmarish effort for the Panamanian national team on Tuesday, he should have no trouble getting back to business on Sunday night against San Jose. Penedo will make at least five saves and be inspired to win a different type of hardware: the MLS Cup.

8. Shea Salinas with an assist

So far this season, Shea Salinas has been solid as an assists man, with eight to his credit. He will make it nine on Sunday.

9. At least 30 fouls and four cards

With both teams battling for a playoff spot, the rivalry is sure to boil over. At least 30 fouls will be issued and four cards of any color will be handed out.

10. Los Angeles…through to the playoffs in style

The Los Angeles Galaxy will walk all over San Jose and get the job done on Sunday. If there is one team that deserves to end the playoff dreams of the Earthquakes, it’s the Galaxy. After all, you can’t escape your destiny. So the old saying goes.
