Omar Gonzalez unavailable for USA Men's National Team

Los Angeles Galaxy defender Omar Gonzalez will not be available for the next set of matches for the USA Men’s National Team due to a left hip strain he suffered on Sunday against Chivas USA. The injury means that Michael Orozco Fiscal will be taking over his place. Despite all that, there is a possibility that he could recover in time for the Galaxy’s Oct. 16 home contest with the Montreal Impact.

As for the rest of the team, this bye week couldn’t have come any sooner for the Galaxy, who have been on the grind since June and are battling for a playoff spot.

“We won’t keep the intensity level up this week because there’s no point in doing that,” Arena told LAGalaxy.com’s Adam Serrano. “What we’re going to do is just get guys as healthy as possible and have a number of options for our games next week.”

“It’s the time of the year where we don’t normally have breaks,” added right back Sean Franklin. “We’ve got a chance to get guys healthy, so it’s nice to have that. We’ve got a nice stretch of games and every point matters. It’s nice to get guys back on the field who may have picked some nicks and knocks.

“We’re excited that Leonardo is getting back into things and A.J. will be back soon. We’re getting guys back healthy at the time right. That’s what you want with the team clicking going into the last couple games of our season.”

Finally, the Galaxy unveiled a new documentary series entitled, “Be A Pro.” Los Angeles Galaxy President Chris Klein was excited at the unfolding of this new documentary series.

“Together with Herbalife, we created ‘Be A Pro,’ to tell engaging stories and provide an in-depth look at what it takes to be a professional athlete,” said Chris Klein, President of the LA Galaxy. “Delivering this inside look at the physical and mental aspect of our player’s day-to-day lives helps emphasize the importance of nutrition and dedication in athletes striving to achieve their goals while helping build a stronger emotional connection with the LA Galaxy.”

The View from Avalon will post episodes of this series on the blog, so be sure to check them out.
