Ange Postecoglou’s Melbourne Victory just can’t get it done against A-League sides in the preseason. They did get a respite on Sept. 29 against the Western Sydney Wanderers.

Goals from Mitch Nichols (1′), Kosta Barbarouses (27′) and and and own goal from Ante Covic (76′) paced the Victory to a 3-0 shutout win over the Western Sydney Wanderers in Kingston, Tasmania.

In the match prior, a hat trick from Gui Finkler (8′, 28′, 39′) paced the Victory to a 6-1 rout over a Tasmania XI side. Anthony Proia scored a brace in the 36th and 60th minute, while Anthony Duzel added an insurance goal in the 90th minute of play. Shane Brassington scored in the 11th minute for the Tasmanians.

However, it was the same old story as they closed out the preseason with a 2-1 defeat to Adelaide United. Barbarouses scored in the 83rd minute. Jeronimo opened up the scoring for Adelaide in the 23rd minute while Tarek Elrich’s 72nd minute strike proved to be all the difference.

Meanwhile, midfielder Rashid Mahazi was signed to a two-year deal after spending a stint with Victoria Premier League side Northcote City.

“Rashid’s performances throughout the pre-season have been very promising and we are looking forward to seeing him further develop as he spends more time with the squad in the lead-up to the season,” Postecoglou said of Manazi to MelbourneVictory.com.au. “We see him as a player with plenty of upside and someone that can fit well into our structures while also providing us with further depth in midfield.”
