Bruce Arena’s Los Angeles Galaxy face a must-win game when they take on Jose Luis Real’s Chivas USA on Oct. 6, 2013 at the StubHub Center in Carson, Calif. With a record of 13-11-6 (45 points), a victory over Chivas USA will keep the Galaxy in the hunt for an MLS Cup Playoffs berth. Chivas, however, have other ideas and would love to pull off a historic upset and shake the MLS Western Conference race upside down.
Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. PT/5 p.m. ET and will be televised by UniMas. The Live Blog will begin at about 12:15 p.m. PT/3:15 p.m. ET.
Keep it right here on the View from Avalon and the FanSided Network for continuing coverage of the Los Angeles Galaxy and all things Major League Soccer.

T-71: LAST MEETING (MLS)
The game’s lone goal arrived in the 44th minute. Landon Donovan delivered a free kick into the box from out on the right and Gyasi Zardes finished off the set piece with a perfectly-placed header that glanced off the post and into the back of the net.
Galaxy goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini was called upon to make just one save on the evening, turning away a Jose Manuel Rivera volley with a diving stop in the 29th minute.

T-70: Three Points from Adam Serrano:
TIME TO SHOW A LITTLE DESIRE
Following the LA Galaxy’s 1-0 loss to the Portland Timbers a week ago, the team’s lack of “desire” when defending set pieces was a major talking point, so where better for LA to rediscover that drive than in a match against their in-stadium rivals, Chivas USA.
STOPPING “EL CUBO” TORRES
Chivas USA may sit at the bottom of the Western Conference, but the Rojiblancos boast one of the league’s brightest young attacking talents in Erick “El Cubo” Torres, who will be seeking to give the Galaxy defense fits on Sunday.
ADDED SHARPNESS SHOULD BENEFIT KEANE AND DONOVAN
A lack of sharpness from Robbie Keane and Landon Donovan in the final third proved decisive in the LA Galaxy’s defeat to the Portland Timbers a week ago, but with both players healthy for the SuperClasico more attacking punch will be expected.
T-70: The LA Galaxy Academy is getting e job done. Catch up to the adventures of the next generation of Galaxy stars here.
T-60: We are an hour away from kickoff here at the Hub. This is, once agin, a must-win game for the Galaxy. If they don’t get all three points, they will find it difficult to make the postseason come the end of October.
T-45: Here are the current MLS standings…

T-35: “The club is doing much better at the soccer level,” said Laurent Courtois, who made 34 regular season appearances for Chivas USA after debuting for the club in 2011, to LAGalaxy.com’s Adam Serrano. “They have clear ideas of how they want to play and what they want to do. I think that they’re going to be really organized with a clear idea of how to handle us. We’re going to have to be really sharp because they want to get a victory.”
T-30: Both teams beginning warmups.
T-29: Los Angeles will wear their thirds today.
“I don’t see much rivalry like people say. I think that we have other teams who are bigger rivals than Chivas. For sure, they have nothing to play for and I’m sure the guys over there are going to want to make our lives terrible,” said midfielder Marcelo Sarvas. “They want to win and prove that they’re a new team. You can see the difference because they’re doing much better and playing harder.”
T-15: Later today, the Vancouver Whitecaps host the Portland Timbers. Lineups coming up.

FIRST HALF START: 2:07 P.M. PT / 5:07 P.M. ET
1′ – Let’s get this started. First half underway.
2′ – Galaxy kick off to start. And here is Jaime Penedo to kick it forward. Los Angeles need to strike early to set the tempo. Sean Franklin now. Gyasi Zardes, and he misses. Goal kick, Dan Kennedy. Here is Jaime Frias to play it forward. Penedo watch that fall by the wayside.
3′ – Can Carlos Alvarez score today? He was instrumental in salvaging a draw in Chivas’s first meeting this year.
4′ – Michael Stephens. Pablo Mastroeni. And that fizzles out. Matt Fondy, and there is the aforementioned Alvarez with the first chance for Chivas.
5′ – No corner awarded, good defending. Carlos Bocanegra is the star player on defense for the Goats.
6′ – Zardes. And there we go.
GOAL! Los Angeles Galaxy 7 Robbie Keane
Right at his feet. Easy.
7′ – LA had numbers, and they are up.
8′ – Now that LA have set the pace, it’s up to Chivas to equalize. Corner. Punched out by Penedo. Back to the Panamanian.
9′ – Sarvas resets. Bad touch from Keane. Omar Gonzalez clears. Stephens vs. Frias. Big matchup there. Offsides, Chivas.
10′ – Not a good read by Zardes. We may have a sellout today.
11′ – A throw-in, LA. Galaxy slowing things down. Kofi Opare with the touch. Sarvas gets challenged.
12′ – Zardes again. Bad shot from Keane. He was looking for an early brace. Not a good clearance from Kennedy.
13′ – Penedo now, and that was speculative in its intentions. Bad touch from Erick Torres. Even worse throw-in…
14′ – The match has slowed down a bit. Must be the heat and those Santa Ana Winds.
15′ – Throw-in to the Galaxy. A run for Zardes is snuffed out.
16′ – Stephens. And Pablo Mastroeni in his younger years would get to that ball.
17′ – The Galaxy are looking to get the better of Chivas in terms of possession. Keane plays it forward.
18′ – Sean Franklin wins a corner for Landon Donovan. Wide. And the rebound was for Omar but he mistimed his run. Either that or too much pace.
19′ – Donovan need to do better than that. Bocanegra now.
20′ – A poor touch from Stephens. Penedo plays it forward. We have a full house of press members for this one.
21′ – Zardes couldn’t hang on. This is dangerous…Chivas with pressure.
22′ – Todd Dunivant now. Good back heel from Sarvas. Donovan couldn’t finish there.
23′ – GOAL! Los Angeles Galaxy 10 Landon Donovan
Gyasi gets the assist on that one.
24′ – #DosACero now for Los Angeles over Chivas. Frias with the throw-in. Opare with the sweep.
25′ – Touches, touches, touches. The time has come for LA to put its best foot forward for the rest of the match.
26′ – If I am not mistakes, Donovan is now two goals away from passing Jeff Cunningham. LA slow it down again.
GOAL! Los Angeles Galaxy 29 Gyasi Zardes
And that’s what his ability can do.
27′ – Los Angeles are not wasting any time here. They want to pile it on Chivas USA right here, right now. They are not messing around.
28′ – Gonzalez. Stephens to throw. Keane with a howler. LA do get it back. Two bad touches in the box.
29′ – Jair Marrufo sees something he doesn’t like and awards a restart to Chivas. Bad touch for Frias.
30′ – Well, we are at the half-hour mark, and Los Angeles are back to being Los Angeles. That could have been 4-0 right there. Ouch. This could have been worse for the designated visitors already.
31′ – Gonzalez to play it forward. Galaxy slow it down again.
32′ – Substitution Chivas USA
In 15 Eric Avila
Out 20 Carlos Alvarez
33′ – Gonzalez with a one-time shot. Stephens. Franklin. Sarvas. That was intended for Zardes but is intercepted.
34′ – Bocanegra again. Now it’s Keane. He plays it back.
35′ – The Chivas fans are rec-league with their chants. It’s a fact, readers.
36′ – Carlos Borja now. Bryan de la Fuente. No dice. That ball is sent Jaime Penedo’s way.
37′ – Now here is Kofi Opare playing it forward. Zardes again. Stripped. Franklin to throw. LA are slowing things down a bit, perhaps to refuel on confetti.
38′ – Sarvas. Finds no one. Back come Chivas USA.
39′ – Landon Donovan’s touch is heavy. Torres for the Goats. No dice. LA are clamping down with a three-goal lead.
40′ – This has degenerated into a Reserve League game in terms of action. I wonder why… Throw-in for the Galaxy.
41′ – Opare now. Bad long ball. Gonzalez sweeps.
GOAL! Los Angeles Galaxy 10 Landon Donovan
He’s now tied with Jeff Cunningham. A chip shot over Dan Kennedy.
42′ – Blowout comb alert for Chivas USA…
43′ – Edgar Mejia for Chivas, who are out of their league already.
44′ – A Beckhamesque attempt from distance. Too much pace from Keane.
45′ – A big decision needs to be made by Arena on whether to bring in Meyer and perhaps Villareal at the break. Halftime.

So far, Los Angeles are cruising to a solid statement victory, but the Galaxy need to hold firm to prevent a massive collapse in the second half.
Second Half Start: 3:09 P.M. PT/6:09 P.M. ET
46′ – The second half is underway.
47′ – Substitution Los Angeles Galaxy
In 21 Tommy Meyer
Out 4 Omar Gonzalez
Substitution Chivas USA
In 11 Gabriel Farfan
Out 26 Matthew Fondy
With Gonzalez sitting out the second half, it’s up to Meyer to hold the fort down and prevent any goals from the Goats.
48′ – Zardes watches that fall out for a throw to Chivas. Too long. Throw in to LA. Now here is Sarvas. Long ball to Franklin is cleared.
49′ – Chivas are settling down now and are looking for the impossible rally. Here is Opare. The back line of the Galaxy is melting down some clock.
50′ – it doesn’t look like LA is in a rush to give Landon the record. A throw In for Mario de Luna.
51′ – A mistimed run for Dunivant, but the Galaxy recover.
52′ – And Sean Franklin is shaken up a bit. He does get up.
53′ – Gyasi Zardes knew he was offsides as soon as he had the ball. Kennedy to collect. Penedo resets.
54′ – Galaxy are taking their time here. Donovan now, and he is marked. Dunivant watches that roll out for a Chivas throw.
55′ – Keane nearly broke through there. And back to Penedo, just like clockwork.
56′ – This is some boring, slow-it-down football from LA. Chivas tries to amp it up.
57′ – To no avail, though, and Dunivant throws for the home side. Keane wins a corner.
58′ – That misses Zardes. Marrufo blows the whistle for a foul in the box.
59′ – Sone good passing here from Chivas, and a break. Good defending, LA slow it down again and win a corner.
60′ – Cleared. What a save from Kennedy. Good sequence there. LA are not letting up.
61′ – For this team, it doesn’t matter what the margin is, Los Angeles will play like Los Angeles when they want to play like Los Angeles.
62′ – Avila with some flashes. Now it’s Farfan. Galaxy sweep.
63′ – Donovan gets tackled but gets up. Zardes gets upended by Kennedy,
64′ – I think we’re doing much better without Arena in the technical area.
65′ – And the confetti flies down the pitch. Free kick for Chivas. Opare with the clearance. And that rebounding volley missed everything.
66′ – Pablo Mastroeni doing too much.
67′ – Keane again. Donovan. Zardes. Cleared. Los Angeles are piling on the pressure.
68′ – Donovan. No one to receive that pass. And we have a Chivas player shaken up.
69′ – Substitution Chivas USA
In 13. Josue Soto
Out 5 Carlos Borja
70′ – This has become a bit of an uneventful second half. The fans want Landon to break the record. With Chivas bearing down, I wonder if that’s possible.
71′ – Kennedy to play this forward. Good save there from the Chivas captain. A decent keeper on a bad team. 21,960 in attendance. And with Lalas Hill open.
72′ – Mastroeni now. Nearly a good break for the Galaxy.
73′ – LA are in lockdown mode right now.
74′ – Substitution Los Angeles Galaxy
In 25 Rafael Garcia
Out 6 Pablo Mastroeni
75′- Here is the point in the game where the match is won: the last 15 and stoppage.
76′ – But will there be any stoppage time with the score as it is? Sarvas asks the back line to pick it up.
77′ – Zardes. Sarvas. Franklin. Stephens watches that float by for a throw.
78′- Galaxy with possession. That’s cleared. Zardes again. Poor shot from the rookie.
79′ – Maybe the heat is finally getting to LA right now. That’s when Chivas can pull on back if they are fortunate.
80′ – Good strip by Bocanegra on Keane.
81′ – Kennedy goes well off his line to hoof that one. Torres is challenged. Kennedy had Keane and Donovan on his tail.
82′ – Finally, a save from Penedo. He will be looking to spearhead an Aztecazo in a few days.
83′ – Some of the fans are calling it quits and heading for the exits. Chivas are offsides.
84′ – Keane now. Donovan. And that was just a teaser right there. Unimaginative, to say the least.
85′ – Landon and Robbie will need to work on their communication in time. Chivas back on the attack. De Luna now.
86′ – Substitution Los Angeles Galaxy
In 15 Laurent Courtois
Out 8 Marcelo Sarvas
87′ – And with that, Courtois joins an elite group of players to have played for both teams in a SuperClasico match.
88′ – Galaxy are slowing it down with good possession. Opare now. Now here is Stephens. Courtois. And he is challenged.
89′ – Stephens plays it back to Tommy Meyer. Zardes now.
90′ – GOAL! Los Angeles Galaxy 7 Robbie Keane
And Keane gets his brace.
90′ + 1′ – One minute. Time for one final kick, it seems. That’s it.
