Los Angeles Galaxy vs. C.S. Cartagines: Rating the Galaxy Players

Bruce Arena went to the reserves once again as the Los Angeles Galaxy shut out Javier Delgado’s Club Sport Cartagines 3-0 at the Estadio Nacional de Costa Rica in San Jose, Costa Rica on Wednesday. The victory sends Los Angeles through to the 2013-14 CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals with a record of 3-0-0 (nine points).

This was the Galaxy Reserves’ best performance yet, and with solid performances come solid ratings. Here are the player ratings for the Los Angeles Galaxy against Club Sport Cartagines in CONCACAF Champions League action.

Brian Rowe 9

Man of the match for his five saves, including four catches, three punches and a drop. Once LA were up 3-0, he got involved and was a stopper in the back.

Greg Cochrane 7.5

Five clearances and seven recoveries, but only a 66 percent pass success rate.

Tommy Meyer 6.5

Three interceptions, four clearances and three recoveries, but a 57 percent pass success rate. Meyer will need to work on his distribution.

Pablo Mastroeni 8

Five interceptions, five clearances, seven recoveries and a 66 percent pass success rate. Donning the captain’s armband this match, Mastroeni was highly involved in the back and showed great leadership.

Oscar Sorto 7

A decent debut: five interceptions, five clearances, four recoveries, three tackles won, but only a 57 percent pass success rate. Welcome to the life of a professional footballer, Oscar.

Laurent Courtois 7

Gets a bonus for the goal but was otherwise quiet this match with four recoveries, four unsuccessful crosses and a 75 percent pass success rate on 24 touches.

Colin Clark 6.5

Four recoveries, two interceptions, two blocked crosses, but a 57 percent pass success rate and three unsuccessful crosses.

Rafael Garcia 7.5

Earns a bonus for an assist. Garcia was a recovery machine with nine assists, to go with three clearances, a 33 percent cross success rate and a 71 percent cross success rate.

Michael Stephens 8

Also earns a bonus for an assist. Stephens had seven recoveries, an impressive 80 percent cross success rate and an 81 percent pass success rate. A much better effort from Stephens.

Jack McBean 7.5

Besides the goal, McBean had three recoveries and 11 headers. He will need to work on his flick ons (eight unsuccessful flick ons) and passing (56 percent pass success rate).

Chandler Hoffman 6.5

Gets a bonus for the goal but was otherwise quiet, with two tackles won, two recoveries, and a 60 percent pass success rate on 10 touches. Still, an improved performance.

Marcelo Sarvas 5
Gyasi Zardes 5

Brought in to provide fresh legs but didn’t need to do too much to preserve the shutout.

Jose Villareal NR

Came into the game late, no rating given.
