T-104: Three Points from Adam Serrano…

There’s no two ways about it, Saturday’s clash between the LA Galaxy and Seattle Sounders FC is a battle of the stars—Robbie Keane, Clint Dempsey, Landon Donovan, Obafemi Martins, Omar Gonzalez, Eddie Johnson and the list goes on and on.

The star power that will take the field on Saturday may earn the headlines, but the outcome of the match may turn on the Galaxy’s ability to silence the Sounders’ dangerous wide play.

The Sounders may be at the top of the league table, but their trips to Carson to face the LA Galaxy have rarely ended well.

T-103: Odds from oddschecker…

Los Angeles Galaxy 11/13
Draw 11/4
Seattle Sounders 7/2

T-90: 90 minutes to kickoff. The updates will be few and far between for this blog, since I forgot to bring my AC Adapter for my laptop. So I will be blogging from my tablet and give you a rundown of what took place here at StubHub Center. Be sure to refresh this live blog again at about halftime.

T-85: We are expected to have a sellout crowd tonight, since it’s a matchup between two storied teams in the West.

T-45: The Emerald City Supporters are in attendance tonight. Not a bad turnout from ECS. Expect a lot of singing from the traveling support. Megaphone included.

T-30: In some other Galaxy news, Chris Klein was signed to a new contract extension which will see him as club president for the long haul.
“We are pleased to have a long-term agreement in place with Chris, who in a short period of time he has developed into one of the most respected executives in Major League Soccer,” said Dan Beckerman, President and CEO of AEG.  “In addition to his tremendous soccer acumen and knowledge of the game, Chris has quickly acquired an extensive knowledge of our business, and is fast becoming one of the more well-rounded leaders in our sport.”

T-27: Both teams begin warmups.

T-20: “It would be great if we could get it again, but that isn’t what should be on our minds,” defender Omar Gonzalez said of the Supporters’ Shield. “Just putting a good team out there, putting in a good effort and making sure we play the right way so we can get three points.

“We need these three points not just for the Supporters’ Shield but to clinch a playoff (berth). It’s so tight right now a loss would be pretty detrimental to us. Portland, Dallas, Colorado, they’re all right there.”

T-10: Since this game is on NBC Sports, the kickoff time will be moved a bit. Happy birthday, Bruce Arena. Seattle will look to spoil the party, it seems.

T-0: Both teams wrap up warmups. No Donovan or Dempsey. Oops.

The teams now enter the pitch to the strains of the MLS Anthem. National anthem by Alana Deblase.

FIRST HALF START: 7:55 P.M. PT/10:55 P.M. ET

1′ – We are underway.

2′ – Galaxy are going to need to be smart here. With no AJ DeLaGarza and no Landon Donovan, mistakes are problematic. Good chance there for LA. Throw-in, Sounders. Foul, Seattle.

3′ – Marcelo Sarvas now. Leonardo. Too long. Nearly found Robbie Keane.

4′ – Good dispossession from Seatle. DeAndre Yedlin plays it forward.

5′ – ECS with their “Take Em All” chant. Michel Gspurning now for Seattle. Bad touch from Gyasi Zardes.

6′ – Sarvas needs to shoulder the weight tonight, and he is doing so early on.

7′ – Some poor ball possession this minute. LA reorganizing.

8′ – Throw-in, Seattle. Juninho now. Obafemi Martins gets pushed.

9′ – First chance of the night from Martins…wide right.

10′ – Sarvas now, and is is Todd Dunivant. Too long for Zardes, Gspurning hoofs it deep. Marcelo runs out of room to reel that in.

11′ – Another  key pass fails to find Keane. Corner, LA.

12′ – Villareal. That goes wide.

13′ – Watch out for Oba, says Jaime Penedo. That pass was not the smartest of passes.

14′ – Seattle with speed. That’s wide. Goal kick, Penedo. Galaxy with some bad giveaways.

15′ – That is too strong for Zardes. Good idea for Villareal, but he was marked by Jhon Kennedy Hurtado.

16′ – Rosales. No penalty. Back come Seattle. Omar holds the fort down.

17′ – Yedlin asks for numbers as he makes this throw. The communication wasn’t there for Keane.

18′ – Some speculative passing tonight. Could this be a low scoring affair?

19′ – Seattle are winning the possession battle, it seems. This could be helpful. Gspurning with a leaping save. Corner, Galaxy.

20′ – Headed out, danger averted.

21′ – Villareal is stonewalled yet again by Hurtado. Corner, LA. Tried to find Gonzale but that didn’t work.

22′ – Penedo with the collection. He read the header from Eddie Johnson with precision.

23′ – Offsides, LA. Yedlin with a run. Omar Gonzalez clears.

24′ – This is a good sequence…corner, Seattle.

25′ – GOAL! Seattle Sounders 7 Eddie Johnson
The best teams in the league are those who are patient, and Seattle is one of them. A superb header from EJ.

26′ – Well, it seems Seattle are proving why they are the class of MLS at the moment.

27′ – Perhaps I was being too optimistic when I said this would end in a draw. LA press forward.

28′ – No foul. That will be a goal kick to Gspurning.

29′ – That is too long for Villareal. Martins now. Denied by Leonardo.

30′ – Omar throws caution to the wind. Yedlin with the throw. Juninho. Bad touch from Keane.

31′ – Gyasi Zardes can’t keep that inbounds. Sarvas gets clipped. Leo Gonzalez with the clearance.

32′ – Looks like all the breaks are going Seattle’s way right now.

33′ – A restart to LA. Omar Gonzalez now. Poor shot from Juninho. Corner.

34′ – This is some solid defending from Seattle. A much improved effort from the last meeting.

35′ – Of course, it also help when you don’t have a Landon Donovan or AJ DeLaGarza on the team for LA, but that’s another story.

36′ – Todd Dunivant wins a throw. The crosses into the box are being intercepted at will for LA.

37′ – I think the Galaxy will be lucky to only be down a goal at the break. Sean Franklin chases the ball, and back come the Galaxy.

38′ – Omar with an emergency clearance. Sounders applying pressure again.

39′ – Penedo denies Johnson of his brace. Galaxy play it back.

40′ – Obafemi Martins pounds the ground as his shot misses wide left. H knows he want these three points.

41′ – Yedlin nutmegs Zardes. Andy Rose is a bit shaken up.

42′ – I think, with Obafemi Martins’s addition to the team, Seattle have vastly improved.

43′ – Dunivant. And Marcelo areas tries to look for someone but is closed down.

44′ – Sigi Schmid is sitting in his easy chair this half. He is contest with the proceedings so far, as he should be.

45′ – Let’s see how many minutes we get here. Headed away. Eddie Johnson now. One minute.

45′ + 1′ – A quick additional minute.

Yellow card 20 Zach Scott

45′ + 2′ – GOAL! Los Angeles Galaxy 19 Juninho

46′ – The second half begins.

47′ – Let’s see what the Sounders do here. Omar Gonzalez walks the tightrope. Short passes from LA. Sean Franklin. Gyasi Zardes was held in check. Galaxy are forced to play it back.

48′ – Leo Gonzalez, the other Gonzalez, moves it around. Omar with the don’t argue.

49′ – A long pass down the middle from Johnson is snuffed out. And we have our first corner of the half.

50′ – That is too low. Back to Michael Gspurning. A foul, says Silviu Petrescu. Goal kick to Jaime Penedo.

51′ – Omar, moves it around, but he makes a mistake. Galaxy forced to draw numbers back.

52′ – Eddie Johnson. Sean Franklin with the track back. Bad pass from Juninho.

53′ – Seattle is also going with short passes in this sequence. Let’s see if they can capitalize. They don’t.

54′ – Jose Villareal with a poor effort from close distance.

55′ – Now here’s a chance for Seattle. And Zardes is challenged by Andy rose.

56′ – Look for the pace to accelerate at this point. I think Hector Jimenez has disappointed me tonight.

57′ – Leo Gonzalez with the throw. That was wasted. Throw-in to LA.  Petrescu is calling a tight ship this minute.

58′ – Corner, Seattle. Cleared.  Eddie Johnson is offsides.

59′ – Zardes gets tangled up. A foul on Seattle, and that will be a set piece chance for Juninho.

60′ – No goal, there was an infraction in the box. Petrescu will whistle that one back.

61′ – That may be a turning point in the game, so we’ll wait and see. Another foul on Seattle.

62′ – Yellow card 6 Osvaldo Alonso
Seattle Sounders

63′ – That shot from Juninho had the curve, but not the accuracy. Goal kick, Gspurning.

64′ – Leo Gonzalez is getting warned one final time. A diving header there.

65′ – Substitution Seattle Sounders
IN 26 Adam Moffat
OUT 25 Andy Rose

66′ –  A player is down on the pitch for Seattle. Yedlin. He’s had a decent game tonight. His night might be over.

67′ – 50-50 ball, just landed awkwardly. Gspurning with the goal kick.

68′ – Seems that Sarvas seems unsettle at this point.

69′ – Zardes vs. Yedlin, and Jimenez is whistled for a bear hug. Some half so far.

70′ – That is a bad restart from Juninho. Los Angeles with the throw.

71′ – Too long for EJ. Another foul. 27,000 in attendance. Sellout. Expected.

72′ – Now here’s Martins. A foul. Restart to the Sounders FC. Jimenez does not have the legs.

73′ – And again, Martins is held in check by Omar.

74′ – Keane didn’t get a good head to it. Will be a throw.

75′ – Keane’s night is getting worse and worse after that shirt tug. Goal kick, Gspurning.

76′  – We are now into the fun minutes of this contest.

Substitution Seattle Sounders
IN 3 Brad Evans
OUT 10 Mauro Rosales

IN 15 Laurent Courtois
OUT 16 Hector Jimenez

77′ – Courtois nearly brought the house down there.

78′  – We are 78 in, and it’s still 1-1.

79′ – Franklin. Bad touch from Courtois. Gspurning kicks it deep. And Courtois is jostled away from the ball.

80′ – Lamar Neagle keeps it inbounds. Now it’s Johnson.

81′ – Courtois gets tugged.

Substitution Los Angeles Galaxy
IN 32 Jack McBean
OUT 33 Jose Villareal

82′ – Substitution Seattle Sounders
IN 8 Marc Burch
OUT 9 Obafemi Martins

83′ – The hydraulic system behind me is inflating at this point.  Almost fell for Zardes.

84′ – And that was nearly 2-1 Seattle. Sigh of relief for the time being.

85′ – Courtois loses the ball. Galaxy forced to draw numbers back.  Gspurning collects.

86′ – Franklin, and McBean can’t reel that he in cleanly. I think he is being thrown to the fire. The sequence fizzles out.

87′  – The Galaxy know too well that winning the last 15 and stoppage is crucial, as Jaime Penedo collects.

88′ – Corner, LA. Collected by Gspurning.

89′ – Courtois loses it again. Boy, he just can’t get a break after that initial miss. Free kick, LA.

90′- Red card 20 Zach Scott
Seattle Sounders

90′ + 1′ – Four minutes. Courtois with a howler of a miss.

90′ + 2′ – Seattle may be thinking about just settling for the tie. They just can’t seem to win here, it’s seems.

90′ +3′ – A Galaxy player and a Sounder are shaken up late.

90′ + 4′ – Substitution Los Angeles Galaxy

90′ + 7′ – Cleared, and that’s it.
