Los Angeles Galaxy vs. Seattle Sounders: 10 Bold Predictions

It doesn’t get any better than this, readers on the View from Avalon: a titanic showdown between Bruce Arena’s Los Angeles Galaxy and Sigi Schmid’s Seattle Sounders for potential supremacy of Major League Soccer’s Western Conference.

The marquee matchup of this contest, as you all know, or should know…is Landon Donovan vs. Clint Dempsey. Of course, if Donovan is not healthy to take part in this game, all bets are off. For the purposes of this article, the premonition is that both marquee players will be ready to go.

Kickoff between the Los Angeles Galaxy and Seattle Sounders from StubHub Center in beautiful Carson, Calif. is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. PT/10:30 p.m. ET and will be televised by NBC Sports Network.

Here we go: 10 Bold Predictions for Saturday’s high-flying encounter between the Los Angeles Galaxy and Seattle Sounders.

1. Clint Dempsey breaks his duck

You all know of Deuce’s scoring issues after just starting out with the Sounders. If not, you haven’t been following this team like you should. Well, lookie here: Clint Dempsey has a golden opportunity to finally get on the score sheet for his new ball club. Dempsey gets things going in the first half for Seattle.

2. Robbie Keane with a brace

The hopes and dreams of the Los Angeles Galaxy lie in the touch and finish of Robbie Keane. He was on the score sheet against D.C. United and will need a big game this Saturday to give LA a chance. Keane will earn another brace.

3. Mauro Rosales with two assists

Mauro Rosales is Seattle’s top provider with seven assists on the year in league play. On Saturday, Rosales will be at the forefront of another strong showing, with two assists.

4. Here comes Eddie Johnson

Mr. “Pay Me” is on a mission: to earn what he thinks he deserves. After coming up big in international duty, you can imagine that EJ is ready be A-OK against LA. Johnson will score in the second half.

5. Look out for Obafemi Martins

Another player to look out for on Seattle’s starting XI is Obafemi Martins. The Nigerian international has eight goals to his credit and has a finishing touch that is lethal. Martins will cook something up in the first half.

6. No goals or assists for Lamar Neagle

Neagle, who I personally refer to as the Neymar of Seattle, will not come up big on Saturday, unfortunately. There will be no goals or assists from the No. 27 of the Sounders.

7. Landon Donovan, who else?

That sore ankle will need to heal up, and that evil eye has to be good to go for Landon Donovan for this bold prediction to be realized. Nothing surprising, just a goal and an assist.

8. Jaime Penedo with at least five saves

Jaime Penedo will be in for the fight of his life this Saturday, as he takes on a Rave Green firing squad from the Emerald City. He’ll have to come up big: at least five saves are expected to be made, says these Bold Predictions.

9. At least 30 fouls and four cards

This rivalry between the Los Angeles of Washington and the Seattle of California (wait, did I get that right?) is sure to be heated and intense. So look for at least 30 fouls to be whistled and four cards of any color to be issued. High stakes are high, readers.

10. This match will end in a draw

And the rat race for the playoff chase continues. After seeing some great action and great goals from both Seattle and Los Angeles…we have ourselves a draw. No refunds this time, fans. You’re gonna get your money’s worth. Oh yes, complete with sellout. How could I have forgotten?
