Los Angeles Galaxy vs. Vancouver Whitecaps: 10 Bold Predictions

After a businesslike 2-0 shutout victory over Club Sport Cartagines of Cartago, Costa Rica in the CONCACAF Champions League, it’s back to MLS action for Bruce Arena’s Los Angeles Galaxy, who take on Martin Rennie’s Vancouver Whitecaps at BC Place Stadium in Vancouver, B.C. on Saturday, Aug. 24.

The road has not been friendly to Los Angeles, and a majority of the team’s nine losses have been on the road. Perhaps with a new goalkeeper and a renewed determination, the Galaxy can turn back the tide of futility and give themselves something to build on.

Kickoff in Canada is scheduled for 6 p.m. PT/9 p.m. ET and will be televised by Time Warner Cable Sportsnet and Time Warner Cable Deportes. Here are 10 Bold Predictions for Saturday’s contest for the Los Angeles Galaxy and Vancouver Whitecaps.

1. No goals or assists for Russell Teibert

Russell Teibert put on a breakthrough performance the last time the Galaxy and Whitecaps were at BC Place. That’s not going to happen on Saturday. The Galaxy backline are going to zero in on Teibert and hold him to zero goals and assists.

2. Jaime Penedo will make at least five saves

Vancouver have made a habit of home-cooking. But against a goalkeeper of Jaime Penedo’s caliber, it’s going to be a little bit difficult. The new acquisition for the Galaxy will have his best performance yet, making at least five saves.

3. Robbie Keane with at least two goals

Robbie Keane is on a scoring hotstreak this year, and is going to be looking for some more goals on Saturday. Keane will get at least a brace against Vancouver.

4. Landon Donovan with at least two assists

Landon Donovan is now back to full fitness and form. That means trouble if you are Vancouver. Donovan is going to earn at least two assists this weekend against the Caps.

5. Scoring hotstreak continues for Camilo

Camilo Sanvezzo is Vancouver’s top goalscorer with 14 goals this season. He will make it 15 on Saturday against the Galaxy.

6. At least five saves from David Ousted

This season, David Ousted has made 11 saves. Against the Los Angeles Galaxy, Ousted is going to put on his best performance yet with at least five saves, even though it will be a losing effort.

7. Gyasi Zardes will also score on Vancouver

Gyasi Zardes opened up his scoring account earlier this season against Vancouver and he will score on the Whitecaps at the same venue on Saturday.

8. No goals in the first half

The recent trend for matches involving the Los Angeles Galaxy in all competitions has shown that there are no goals in the first 45 minutes. The trend will continue this weekend.

9. At least 30 fouls and three cards

Hard. Tough, Physical. And emotional. This will be a battle between two teams entangles in a tight Western Conference race. At least 30 fouls will be whistled and three cards of any color will be handed out.

10. Los Angeles wins big in B.C.

This will be an important victory for the Los Angeles Galaxy because it will help them prove to themselves that they can, indeed, win on the road.
