View from the Los Angeles Blues: July 21, 2013

Daryoush Yazdani’s Los Angeles Blues were looking to keep their winning streak going. They had a stern test in the form of Leigh Cowlishaw’s Richmond Kickers under overcast skies at Titan Stadium on the campus of California State University, Fullerton, in Fullerton, Calif.

Matt Fondy got the Blues going with a goal in the fifth minute of play, but Richmond kept fighting with goals from Richard Ownby in the 76th minute and David Bulow in the 86th minute. Bulow’s penalty gave the Kickers a 2-1 victory over the Blues, ending a five-game winning streak dating to July 4.

The loss drops them to fifth place in USL Pro with a record of 9-7-5 (32 points). Despite the result, Los Angeles can inch closer to a spot in the playoffs with a couple of big games this week.
