Bruce Arena’s Los Angeles Galaxy improved to 10-8-3 and are now third place in the MLS Western Conference following a key 2-1 victory over the Vancouver Whitecaps at StubHub Center in Carson, Calif. With one veteran missing in action and another veteran injured, the Galaxy had to rely on youth to pull it together.
The young guns on this Galaxy team will need to break through again if the USA beat El Salvador several hours from now. Here are the player ratings for the Los Angeles Galaxy following their 2-1 victory over Martin Rennie’s Vancouver Whitecaps.
Carlo Cudicini 7
Despite giving up a goal in the 19th minute, Carlo Cudicini atoned with a clutch save on Kenny Miller in the 73rd minute of play.
Todd Dunivant 7
Gets a bonus for delivering the game-winning assist to Gyasi Zardes.
A.J. DeLaGarza 7.5
Waves of clearances left a right. Solid sweeping.
Omar Gonzalez 8
Assuming the USA defeats El Salvador, this was a good prep match for his time with the USA National Team.
A disconnected performance, despite earning an assist. Didn’t really impress. Also gets a deduction for a yellow.
Marcelo Sarvas 6.5
Had to be subbed out due to concerns that he could be in the books but did relatively well with a couple of shots on goal.
Pablo Mastroeni 6.5
Strong showing for his first start in an LA Galaxy uniform, but did look slow at times.
Jose Villareal 7
Scored the equalizer, although he had to get a little respite from Chris Penso.
Gyasi Zardes 7.5
Earns a bonus for scoring the match winner, and also learned his lesson in terms of melting the clock. An improved performance.
Michael Stephens 4
Used to bring in some fresh legs but didn’t do anything that would change the outcome of the contest.
Rafael Garcia NR
Came into the game late, no rating given.
Laurent Courtois 5
As this is his first-ever match in an LA Galaxy uniform, he gets this rating. Did fancy his chances of scoring, and really felt as if the match wasn’t over yet during his time on the pitch. May be getting a start soon enough.
