2013 USL Pro Power Rankings: Week 11

The Lions of Orlando City look from atop their perch in the USL Pro Power Rankings on the View from Avalon as the rest of the competition jostles for playoff positions heading deep into summer. Who can knock Orlando off their perch?

Movers, shakers, and most importantly…results. We have it here on the View from Avalon’s Power Rankings.

1. Orlando City

Adrian Heath’s Orlando City were, once again, off this week. They return to action on June 29 against the Richmond Kickers at the Citrus Bowl. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.

2. Pittsburgh Riverhounds

Justin Evans’s Pittsburgh Riverhounds had their best week of the season. Jose Angulo scored a brace (48′, 76′) while Darren Amoo (58′) and Michael Seth (83′) join in the fun as the Hounds won a 4-3 goal festival over the Harrisburg City Islanders at the Skyline Sports Complex in Harrisburg, Pa. On Sunday, it was Amoo that scored a brace (6′, 55′) with Rob Vincent (16′) and Angulo (64′) adding insurance en route to a comprehensive 4-1 rout of Antigua Barracuda FC at Highmark Stadium in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Up next for the Riverhounds are a couple of matches in July. Pittsburgh host the Charlotte Eagles on Jul. 4. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. On Jul. 6, the home stand continues with a match against the Los Angeles Blues. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.

3. Dayton Dutch Lions

After a scoreless draw with Phoenix FC Wolvers at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium on the campus of Arizona State University in Tempe, Ariz., a 90th minute goal from Tjeerd Westdijk in the 90th minute gave Ivan van Dinteren’s Dayton Dutch Lions a 1-0 shutover victory over the Los Angeles Blues at Titan Stadium on the campus of California State University, Fullerton in Fullerton, Calif.

Dayton return to action on Jun. 28 against the Charlotte Eagles at Beavercreek High School in Beavercreek, Ohio. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.

4. Richmond Kickers

Joseph Ngwenya scored in the 54th minute to give Leigh Cowlishaw’s Richmong Kickers a 1-1 draw with the Vancouver Whitecaps FC Reserves at City Stadium in Richmond, Va. The Kickers have a couple of matches on the way. On Jun. 29, they travel to the Citrus Bowl to take on Orlando City. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. On Jun. 30, the road trip continues as Richmond squares off against VSI Tampa Bay FC. Kickoff at Plant City Stadium in scheduled for 7:35 p.m. PT.

5. Charleston Battery

Michael Anhaeuser’s Charleston Battery played to a scoreless draw with VSI Tampa Bay FC at Blackbaud Stadium in Charleston, S.C. and will return to action on Jul. 5 against Orlando City at home. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.

6. Charlotte Eagles

Sergio Villasenor’s 74th minute goal gave Mark Steffens’s Charlotte Eagles a 1-0 victory over VSI Tampa Bay FC on Friday at the Queens Sports Complex in Charlotte, N.C. However, they could not build on that result, and instead were consigned to a scoreless draw with the Wilmington Hammerheads at Legion Stadium in Wilmington, N.C.

The Eagles have a couple of matches this week. On Jun. 28, they travel to Beavercreek High School to face the Dayton Dutch Lions. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. On Jun. 29, the Eagles will travel to Toyota Park in Bridgeview, Ill. to clash with the Chicago Fire Reserves. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET.

7. Harrisburg City Islanders

Despite goals from Tom Mellor (1′), James McLaughlin (21′) and Sainer Touray (90′), Bill Becher’s Harrisburg City Islanders fell 4-3 to the Pittsburgh Riverhounds at the Skyline Sports Complex. Harrisburg return top action on Jun. 28 against Phoenix FC Wolves. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.

8. Wilmington Hammerheads

David Irving’s Wilmington Hammerheads played to a scoreless draw with the Charlotte Eagles and will continue their season on Jun. 30 against the New York Red Bulls Reserves at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. ET.

9. Rochester Rhinos

Jesse Myers’s Rochester Rhinos defeated Antigua Barracuda FC 2-1 at Sahlen’s Stadium in Rochester, N.Y. on goals from Danny Earls (77′) and Tyler Rosenlund (88′). Up next for Rochester is a match with Phoenix FC Wolves at home. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET.

10. Los Angeles Blues

Daryoush Yazdani’s Los Angeles Blues were shut out 1-0 by the Dayton Dutch Lions at Titan Stadium and will need to clean up their act if they are to contend for a playoff spot. The Blues continue their season on Jul. 4 at home against Antigua Barracuda FC. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. PT/10:30 p.m. ET. On Jul. 6, the Blues travel to Highmark Stadium to face the Pittsburgh Riverhounds. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. PT/7 p.m. ET.

11. Phoenix FC Wolves

David Robertson’s Phoenix FC Wolves could only muster a scoreless draw with the Dayton Dutch Lions at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium. The Wolves have a couple of matches this week. Phoenix take on the Harrisburg City Islanders at the Skyline Sports Complex on Jun. 28. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. PT/7 p.m. PT. On Jun. 29, the Wolves travel to Sahlen’s Stadium to take on the Rochester Rhinos. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:05 p.m. PT/7:05 p.m. ET.

12. VSI Tampa Bay FC

Matt Weston’s VSI Tampa Bay FC were shut out 1-0 by the Charlotte Eagles on Friday at the Queens Sports Comples and held to a scoreless draw by the Charleston Battery at Blackbaud Stadium. VSI’s next match is on Jun. 30 against the Richmond Kickers at Plant City Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:35 p.m. ET.

13. Antigua Barracuda

The winless streak for Tom Curtis’s Antigua Barracuda FC continued. Despite Orlando Mitchus scoring in the 57th minute on Friday against the Rochester Rhinos at Sahlen’s Stadium, the Barracudas fell, 2-1. On Sunday, despite Tamorley “Ziggy” Thomas scoring in the 13th minute of play, Antigua were destroyed 4-1 by the Pittsburgh Riverhounds at Highmark Stadium.

Antigua do not return to action until July. On Jul. 4, the Barracudas travel to Titan Stadium to take on the Los Angeles Blues. Kickoff is scheduled for 10:30 p.m. ET. On Jul. 6, Antigua travel to Sun Devil Soccer Stadium to face Phoenix FC Wolves. Kickoff is scheduled for 10:30 p.m. ET.
