Jesus Rico-Sanz’s Los Angeles Blues have made plenty of moves and even earned a new sponsor ahead of their Mar. 23 meeting with Phoenix FC at Titan Stadium on the campus of California State University, Fullerton (kickoff: 7:30 p.m. PT/10:30 p.m. ET).
Do you want to go to Iceland? I know I do, even though I am not a fan of their hakarl (yeah, you Google that up, thank you very much). But that’s the new partnership between the Blues and South Iceland Adventures, who are now a sponsor of the team. On Aug. 17, one lucky Blues fan will win two round-trip tickets from Los Angeles to Reykjavik, Iceland, complete with accomodations, a seven day tour and all the fixings.
But if you’re following the View from Avalon in the L.A. area, you have to buy season tickets to be eligible.
“We are very excited about this new partnership with South Iceland Adventures,” said Warren Barton, the team’s general manager and technical director, to reporters. “South Iceland Adventures is helping us give one of our fans a once in a lifetime opportunity.”
On the player front, some players are coming back. On Feb. 28, defenders Matt Hall and Cory Miller are rejoining the team. “Having two veteran players re-sign with the Blues is very exciting for us,” Barton said. “Matt and Cory give us the experience we need on the backline.”
Also rejoining the team are midfielder Allan Russell and forward George Davis IV. Russell had spent plenty of time donning the captain’s armband and should earn time donning it again this season. “It’s always exciting to have players return to a team, and it’s no different with Russell and Davis,” Barton said of the two re-signings. “They both bring experience and a work ethic that the Blues is looking for.”
Finally, coming back to the Los Angeles Blues this past Wednesday was goalkeeper Carl Woszczynski, who made a name for himself as a netminder for the UAB Blazers. “Carl’s a very a talented goalkeeper, and we are very excited to have him be a part of the Blues this season,” Barton said of Woszczynski.
Next week, the preseason Power Rankings for USL Pro will be posted. Keep up to date on the Los Angeles Blues and USL Pro here on the View from Avalon, a part of the FanSided Network.
