Los Angeles Galaxy vs. Seattle Sounders: Rating the Galaxy Players

If there is any solace that Bruce Arena’s Los Angeles Galaxy can take from Sunday’s match with Sigi Schmid’s Seattle Sounders, it’s the fact that they won 1-0. But they did it the hard way, relying on a super sub to get the job done. With the victory, they have massive momentum heading into the playoff opener with the Vancouver Whitecaps on Thursday.

Here are the player ratings for the Los Angeles Galaxy against the Seattle Sounders.

Josh Saunders 7

A shutout over the Sounders to go with four saves on the night for Saunders. However, the netminder is penalized for an unnecessary yellow card that was completely avoidable. Despite the caution, it was a good evening for Josh Saunders.

Omar Gonzalez 7.5

Best defender on the pitch for the Galaxy tonight. Four defender blocks, five interceptions, four clearances and seven recoveries sum up a solid performance from Omar Gonzalez against Seattle.

Sean Franklin 5

Saw limited action on the pitch, and was only able to make two defender blocks, two clearances and recovery. To Franklin’s credit, he finished his 45 minutes of action with a 93 percent pass success rate.

Todd Dunivant 6.5

Dunivant was not very good with his crosses (20 percent cross success rate), but he made four interceptions and five recoveries to go with a decent 77 percent pass success rate.

Tommy Meyer 6.5

Decent night for Tommy Meyer, who made four interceptions and eight clearances to go with a 77 percent pass success rate, like Dunivant. Did well to maintain the shutout.

Christian Wilhelmsson 6

A 70 percent pass success rate combined with eight recoveries was Christian Wilhelmsson’s contributions to the contest. Was unfortunate to not capitalize on his chances.

Juninho 7.5

Juninho earned a lot of touches this game and earned an impressive 81 percent pass success rate. In addition, Juninho made three interceptions, four recoveries and won a couple of tackles to go with a key pass and a successful cross. Solid night for the young Brazilian.

David Beckham 5.5

No goals and assists for David Beckham, as predicted, and the No. 23 was rested early for the playoffs. Gets minus points for the temper tantrum and walking back to the change rooms midway through the second half.

Edson Buddle 6

Quiet night for Edson Buddle, who had a humble 67 percent pass success rate and three unsuccessful flick ons. Big question now for Budson is this: will he break out against Vancouver?

Landon Donovan 5.5

An 85 percent pass success rate, two through balls, two recoveries, and three key passes, but nothing too spectacular from Landon Donovan tonight.

Robbie Keane 6

Robbie Keane gets bonus points for the assist to Mike Magee but this was a horrible night for Keane in terms of finishing. Every shot he has on goal sailed wide of the mark. That isn’t good heading into the MLS Cup Playoffs.

Mike Magee 6.5

Super sub Mike Magee clinched it for the Galaxy in the limited time that he spent on the pitch. Bonus points for the goal.

Marcelo Sarvas 6.5

Bonus points for a consistent 93 percent pass success rate. Also won three tackles. This was garbage time for Sarvas. We’ll see if Bruce Arena decides to give him more minutes on Thursday against the Caps.

Bryan Gaul 6

Filled in for Sean Franklin but only had three clearances and two recoveries. However, Gaul marked Fredy Montero and limited his damage, even though the woodward was the 12th man for both sides.
